Giving Back, One Employee at a Time: Active Logic’s Monthly Philanthropy Spotlight

April 10th, 2025

We asked our team a simple question: “If given the opportunity, what is a cause you’d support?” For Senior Developer Aaron Case, the answer was as clear as day — the organization that helped him connect with and foster his now-adopted son.

At Active Logic, giving back isn’t just a corporate value — it’s personal. Starting this month, the company donates $500 to a nonprofit selected by one of its team members, aiming to spotlight the causes that resonate most deeply within its workforce. This month, that spotlight shines on Aaron Case, a Senior Software Engineer who chose FosterAdopt Connect — the organization that played a pivotal role in helping him and his wife build their family.

From Code to Community: Meet Aaron Case

Aaron Case has been a Senior Software Engineer at Active Logic for over four years. Known for his technical expertise and down-to-earth demeanor, Aaron lives life on his farm with his family, where they care for a growing number of animals and often share glimpses of rural life with colleagues and friends.

But beyond the code and the countryside, Aaron’s story is deeply rooted in a personal mission — one shaped by his own experience growing up. “As a teen, I was in multiple group homes and foster homes,” he shared. “After becoming an adult, I had dreams of starting my own group home to help kids like me.”

That dream evolved into action when Aaron and his wife began discussing adoption after the birth of their last two children. The turning point came when they met a few social workers from FosterAdopt Connect at their church. Encouraged by the opportunity to learn more, they quickly found themselves taking the first steps toward becoming foster parents.

The couple officially began fostering in August 2018. Over the next few years, they would welcome 18 children into their home — each with unique challenges, stories, and the shared need for stability and care. “I don’t think we ever really thought about the numbers or how long we would foster,” Aaron said. “We just wanted to help as many as we could.”

Throughout that journey, their home became a place of consistency, care, and cherished memories. One tradition, in particular, stood out for Aaron: “Movie night — we had a projector screen in the basement and bean bags for the kids. We’d buy candy, pop popcorn, and all pile together to watch a movie.” Moments like this were consistent in the Case household, leaving nothing but the feeling of love and warmth within their walls.

Their path eventually led to a life-changing decision when they adopted their final foster child, Izaak, a young boy initially placed with them as a temporary weekend stay. That short-term placement grew into something far greater, and in January 2021, he officially became part of their family of eight.

A Social Worker’s Perspective: Grace in Action

Behind every foster journey is a team of support — and for the Case family, that included Brittany Brooks, their dedicated social worker who was able to witness their impact firsthand.

“Aaron and Jennifer were just very open and welcoming to any kiddo needing a placement — from newborns to teenagers,” she shared. “During their time as foster parents from 2018 to 2021, they provided care for 18 children: five on an emergency short-term basis, four with significant medical needs, eight long-term foster placements, and ultimately adopted one — Izaak.”

Among the many children the Cases cared for, two stories especially stood out to Brittany as reflections of their deep compassion and unwavering dedication. One involved their care for medically fragile infants exposed to drugs and alcohol in utero — the couple spent countless hours in hospitals bonding through skin-to-skin contact, all while juggling a busy household and ensuring their other children remained active and supported through homeschooling. In another case, they fostered a child with hopes of adoption but later recognized they weren’t the right long-term fit. Instead of stepping away, they lovingly facilitated the transition to an adoptive family — coordinating visits, involving them in medical care, and offering continued support long after the adoption was finalized.

Throughout the entire licensing process and every placement, the Case family created an environment of warmth, respect, and trust. “From the very first time I entered their home, I felt a warmth and openness that you can’t easily find,” said Brittany. “I often found myself sitting on their couch, with their Great Dane snuggled up beside me, as we discussed the children and any additional support they might need.”

Though the Case family officially closed their chapter in foster care after adopting Izaak, the FAC team expressed both joy and sadness. “They were such an exceptional family. [We’re] grateful to have witnessed their journey and the love they gave so freely. Izaak is an absolute joy — and they’re so deserving of every happiness in the next chapter of their story.”
