BG Products manufactures professional automotive maintenance chemistry and the equipment used to apply it, from a campus of facilities across Wichita, El Dorado, and Derby, Kansas. The company holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO/IEC 17025 for its laboratory, plus AS9100 for its machine shop, and carries 35 patents across 75 countries.
The detail that shapes everything about their software: BG does not sell direct. Product reaches the market through a network of independent distributors and roughly 50,000 shops, from franchised dealerships to independent repair shops. The people who actually recommend and perform a BG service do not work for BG.
A BG service is recommended in about ninety seconds, at a service counter, by an advisor who may have started that month, to a customer who assumes they are being upsold. Then a technician has to perform it correctly on a vehicle that could be any one of tens of thousands of configurations. Neither of those people is a BG employee, and neither has time to read a manual.
That turns product knowledge into a distribution problem:
Active Logic built the tools that put BG's knowledge in the hands of the people selling and performing the work, and then put BG's services inside the software those shops already run.
A mobile app for service advisors on iOS and Android, built around a presenter mode so an advisor can show a customer what a maintenance service actually does rather than describe it. Role-specific training, sales coaching modules, reference guides, and brand assets travel with them.
A companion app for technicians, anchored on a service guide covering more than 52,000 vehicle configurations with the correct adaptors, alongside fluid application guides and Tech Tips. Technicians sign in with the same credentials as the rest of the BG platform.
Rather than asking independent shops to adopt another system, we integrated BG directly into Tekmetric, the shop management platform they already run. BG services appear as ready-to-add jobs on estimates and repair orders, coverage prints on the RO, and BG sales flow into the shop's own reporting and customer history.
Both apps are in active service on iOS and Android and continue to ship updates. Each was recognised by the Brandon Hall Group: BG Advisor took a Bronze award for Best Advance in Mobile Sales Enablement and Performance Tools, and BG Tech took a Bronze award for Best Advance in Performance Support Technology.
The integration's effect is the part BG measures directly. These are the figures BG publishes for shops running the Tekmetric integration:
For a manufacturer whose revenue depends on thousands of people it does not employ making the right recommendation, that is the whole game. The software is not a marketing channel. It is how the product gets sold.
Distributor portals, dealer apps, and integrations into the systems your customers already run are their own kind of engineering problem. Tell us about yours.
